Medicine Wheel Power Animals

This commissioned colored pencil series explores the four Power Animals of the Medicine Wheel, each representing one of the four cardinal directions and their symbolic qualities.

Rendered entirely in colored pencils on Pastelmat, each 8” × 10” drawing celebrates the unique presence and character of one Power Animal: the Golden Eagle of the East, Coyote of the South, Grizzly Bear of the West, and White Bison of the North.

Working with colored pencils allowed me to build each portrait through slow, deliberate layers, revealing the richness of every feather, strand of fur, and subtle shift of light. More than realistic studies, these drawings were created to evoke a sense of presence, honoring the spirit, resilience, and timeless symbolism embodied by each animal.

這組色鉛筆委託創作，以藥輪（Medicine Wheel）的四位力量動物（Power Animals）為主題，描繪象徵東、西、南、北四方及其精神意涵的動物形象。

作品以色鉛筆繪製於 Pastelmat 紙張，每幅尺寸為 8 × 10 英吋，分別呈現東方的金鷹（Golden Eagle）、南方的郊狼（Coyote）、西方的灰熊（Grizzly Bear），以及北方的白野牛（White Bison）。

色鉛筆層層堆疊的創作過程，讓我得以細膩刻畫羽毛、毛髮與光影的豐富層次。這系列作品不僅追求動物外貌的真實描繪，更希望傳達牠們所承載的精神力量、堅韌生命力，以及歷久彌新的象徵意義，讓每一幅作品都呈現出沉靜而鮮明的存在感。
